25.3.2009
On Saturday 21.3.2009, the international rowing federation (FISA) paid a visit to the Račice Sports Centre before the world under 23 rowing championships, which is to take place this year at Račice from the 23rd to the 26th of July.
At the supervisory meeting FISA was represented by Svetla Otzetova, Colleen Orsmond and Bernd Schumacher together with Ralph Hoffman from Swiss Timing.
Our organisational committee consisted of its chairman Jiří Kejval, Zdeněk Pecka, Vladimír Borovička, Josef Johánek, Arnošt Poisl, Zdeněk Janků, Simona Hanousková and Dušan Macháček jr.
The main aim of the visit was to check on the organisational committee’s preparations for the world championships in accordance with the detailed descriptions in the manual. The visit began with a careful examination of the entire sports grounds followed by checks and discussions for each point on the agenda. For the competitors it is important to change the direction of the race without using the return canal.
At the start the outside lane will go under the stands, as it did at the World Cup in Munich. During last year a new building was constructed in the grounds next to the weighing tower, as was a path around the tower, further the anchoring of the makefast ropes was reconstructed as well as the suspension on the boarding piers.
Two new two-seat catamarans with Honda 20 HP engines were bought. At the end of the meeting the FISA representatives expressed their satisfaction with the preparations for this year’s world rowing event.
